I never mentioned our weekday experiences with Craft Beer
Week. Some of them were kind of odd. On Monday we went to One Barrel Brewing
for their sour night, and the only odd thing there was that they didn’t allow
you to get a flight of their sour beers, or even sample them. All you could do
was purchase a full glass of whichever one you thought sounded best. And did
you know they sell barstools there? It is $4500 to get a personalized barstool,
and then if you come in and someone is sitting on it, you can make them move
but they get a free drink for their troubles. Also, whichever bartender you
designate gets $500 from the purchase price. Travalon and I did not purchase a
barstool.
Tuesday there was a Bucks game, so we just stayed home.
Wednesday we went out to the Salvatore’s Pizza in Sun
Prairie, which advertised an event where they tapped One Barrel’s Spring Break,
a coconut porter. We had tried this beer previously at Bierock, and it was
delicious, so we headed out to Sun Prairie. However, nobody there had any clue
about this event, even though it was prominently featured in the Craft Beer
Week passport, and they didn’t have the beer on tap. They felt bad, but
apparently they had no idea, and Travalon and I were the first people to have
asked about it, so they gave us each a free beer. Also, the pizza was
delicious.
Thursday we had plans to go to Craftsman Table and Tap in
Middleton and then on to Long Table, but the hostess at Craftsman Table and Tap
was weirdly rude when she said they had a half-hour wait. We left and went to
the Free House, also part of Craft Beer Week, and they seated us right away.
Then we walked over to Long Table for their sour night. There was supposed to
be funk music too, but that place is so loud that you could hardly hear it in
the background. Ah well, every Craft Beer Week experience can’t be like the
beer and chocolate tasting at Funk Factory or sitting on the patio at Waypoint.
