Beautiful Evening at the Elks Club

Today did not start off fortuitously. The traffic was so bad that I was half an hour late to work, and then there was a cloudburst just as I got out of the car, so I was soaked. I walked slowly with Hardingfele at lunch, since she had hurt her toe, and I didn't bring my sunglasses because it was so overcast... and then the sun came out. As I was waiting for the shuttle, I suddenly realized I hadn't locked the breakroom or the copier room, but really, what are people going to steal - a ream of paper and some paper plates? Anyway, so many people were still around that it just didn't occur to me. Usually I'm the last one there.

However, things got better in the evening, when I joined some Shamrock Club buddies at the Elks Club for the monthly Irish session. Famie and Celtic Lass were there, and Travalon joined us when he got done with work. Here is a selfie Celtic Lass took of her and me.

And I love this shot that shows all of us (except Celtic Lass, who was taking the photo), the musicians behind us, and the lake beyond all of us.

The craziest part is that Celtic Lass introduced us to a hairdresser who used to cut my hair when I was in college. She moved to another studio not as close to campus, so in my mind she might as well have moved to Philadelphia, since at that time I had no car and didn't know the city, and back then students didn't get free bus passes. I've been going to my current hairdresser ever since this other one left, but I remember really liking this one. Anyway, it was a beautiful evening with wonderful people and excellent tunes.

Travalon said that I didn't post enough photos of dunes from his trip, so here are photos of dunes:

These are only some of his photos of dunes, but you get the idea.

This post wouldn't be complete without some train graffiti, so enjoy these from a train that went through our town yesterday.

I still have lots more graffiti to post, from a longer video of a local train and also the videos Travalon took a few weeks back. If you love train graffiti, keep checking back!

New Parking Lot and Short Bus Shuttle

Today was my first day parking at the new parking lot. Travalon met me there, and he took me to work and then came back and took photos of train graffiti.

Nothing too exciting happened at work today. I took a walk with Seabird on the Lakeshore Path. Then I took the new shuttle home. It's a "short bus"! And no bathroom! It took me back to the parking lot overlooking the rail yard, where I could see a train moving around and getting more cars attached. Then I discovered that the one way I had thought to get home from there that didn't involve making a U-turn has me making a right turn at an acute angle, in an intersection where I once crashed into the median. Am I going to have to risk doing that every time? That was late at night, but today while it was still light out, the intersection didn't seem one bit easier to navigate.

Once at home, I took a photo of all three of my "Anglican rosaries."

This is probably my favorite chaplet, and it's so short. The prayers must be pretty universal, if both Coptic Christians and Anglicans do them. I say this because I asked the Coptics at Egypt Fest, where I bought the wooden chaplet on the right, which prayers they do on this, and it's basically the same as I have been doing, the "Jesus Prayer" on the seven beads and then the Trisagion on the big bead. Those are both very ancient prayers.

Tomorrow I will post more photos from Travalon's trip, and maybe the screenshots I took of a very long train someone posted on social media. Plus there are still plenty more from the videos Travalon took a couple of weeks ago. Stay tuned!
