Last night Travalon and I were going to see The Princess Bride at Hilldale, but it
was all sold out except for the very front two rows and the seats in the row
for handicapped people. They said they wouldn’t sell those until closer to the
start of the movie, so we had dinner at Pasqual’s and then returned, but by
then they had sold the seats in the handicapped row. We went to the budget
theater, but there was nothing showing we wanted to see, so we drove to Point
Cinema, but everything had started about half an hour earlier. Our timing
seemed to be totally off, but in fact it was perfect because when we went to DB
Infusions chocolate shop for some hot cocoa, we ran into some old friends and
got a chance to talk.
Later Rich came over to install the new ballasts into Plant
World. He put one in… and it still didn’t work! But then he accidentally bumped
something and Plant World lit right up, so I didn’t need the new ballasts ($60)
or even possibly the new light bulbs ($40) – I could have saved myself a C-note
by jiggling Plant World until it lit back up! Ah well, the bulbs were
undoubtedly near the end of their life span, and who knows when the ballasts
might need replacing? They only have a three-year warranty, and I’ve had the
fixtures for four years now. Anyway, Plant World is functioning again, much to
my relief and I’m sure that of my photosynthesizing housemates. There is still
one old bulb, so that may burn out at any time. Plants: an expensive hobby when
you only have northern exposure. Thanks to Rich for fixing the problem, however he did it.
