Travalon and I went to a wedding this past weekend, which I
will blog about tomorrow. During our travels, we had something funny happen to
us, which would seem to merit its own blog post. While we were staying
overnight in a hotel, Travalon received the following text message around
midnight, waking him up:
“Dear Famous, this is Richard Thayne from the stake
executive committee. Sorry for the late notice, but could you meet with one of the
stake presidents at 8:45 tomorrow?”
If he hadn’t been so groggy, Travalon might have realized
that this was a wrong number, but the fact that it was to someone with my first
name led him to believe it was from someone at Our Lady of Perpetual
Sobriety, regarding a meeting before 9:00 Mass. You have
to admit there is a certain logic to that. He texted Richard Thayne back:
“Sorry, we went to a wedding in River Falls and are still
out of town. This is her fiancé Travalon.”
Only he thinks he might have spelled it with two e’s,
therefore further muddying the situation, since his first name could be a woman’s
name if it were spelled differently. So he got some Famous out of a morning
meeting and let her sleep in.
The next morning Travalon told me about it, and we realized
Richard Thayne’s area code was for Tacoma, Washington, so he texted just before
10 pm his time – still on the late side to set up a meeting, but not as
ridiculous as midnight. We were wondering what on earth the stake presidency
was, and if Richard Thayne was going to be very confused about Famous’s fiancé(e),
for example if he knew she was already married, or if he was going to
congratulate her on her engagement and confuse the heck out of her. Or – and this
would really be a wacky coincidence – what if this Famous does have a fiancé named
Travalon? We were laughing so hard, thinking about how confusing the entire
situation could be for the people involved, but at least nobody expected Famous
at that morning meeting, unless Richard Thayne realized he had texted the wrong
number and managed to contact the right Famous.

Hmm... a Google search leads me to believe a stake president is some position in the Mormon church.
