Easter in the Marsh

Last night after I blogged, Travalon and I went to the Easter Vigil at the church we have been attending. Now anyone who knows me knows that I love a good Exultet, and I figured we wouldn't get one at this church, which was true. The head priest, a tall, rangy man of Swiss ancestry, has a very good voice, but he did some lounge version that didn't use the chant tune and, worse, was missing half the words. No happy fault? No necessary sin of Adam? Why are we even here? But all was forgiven when the reading from Exodus was a klezmer-style call and response. I am so gauche that I recorded a small part of it. Is making videos during Mass a mortal sin? Sorry that I am singing so loudly during the response.

There was so much joy during this Mass. Twenty people were accepted into the church! I was just glowing with joy the whole night.

Today Travalon and I were heading to Horicon Marsh when I had a sudden craving for lefse. If that seems random to you, it does to me too, but we were passing DeForest, where the Norske Nook is located, and I thought if anyplace would have it, they would. Of course they were closed today, but the DeForest Family Restaurant was open, and they had lefse! Travalon thought we might as well have an early lunch, since who knows what else would be open today, so I got a side of lefse with my omelet. It was warm and came with butter that I slathered all over it. Oh yeah! And then I really tore into the hash browns as well, although I couldn't finish either them or the omelet. (Lunch tomorrow!) I googled why I might be craving potatoes, and apparently they contain magnesium and potassium. This could be because it had been a couple of days since I'd eaten a banana.

The Kwik Trip in Waupun is inexplicably torn down and being rebuilt from scratch, so we stopped into the Walgreens to use the bathroom. We were just going to buy some chocolate to justify our presence, but then I saw a Gund teddy bear. When I was little, Gund was a big name in stuffed animals - their slogan was "Gotta Get a Gund" - but I hadn't realized they were still around. I picked it up and cuddled it, and then Travalon cuddled it, and we were hooked.

We decided to call him Gundiano, which was a made-up family name someone I used to know was going to go by. Which reminds me, I thought I should call my Emotional Disregulation Bunny Easter, since she came at Easter, so the Disassociation Bunny should be called something to do with my birthday, like January. Travalon suggested Cappy for Capricorn, so that's probably what I'll call her. You couldn't see the little design on Easter's foot in the photo I posted yesterday, so here's one where you can.

It was raining today, and probably also due to the holiday there were no people when I went onto the boardwalk at Horicon while waiting for Travalon. I stood there listening to the weird, laughing calls of the soras and gallinules and the trumpeting of a couple of swans, as well as the other bird sounds. Horicon is like another world, one that belongs to birds, and I always feel like an honored guest. Then Travalon joined me and took photos, but it has gotten late so I will post them tomorrow. We also went to the part of Horicon where we have seen the white-headed goose in the past, but we just saw a few basic Canada geese.

This evening we went to Richard Bonomo's house for dinner. One person there was very loud, talking to himself or whoever would listen at top volume and repeating himself constantly. I think it might have annoyed one person, who slipped out without saying goodbye. Some of us did manage to have good conversations in spite of him, and of course the guy who brings fabulous desserts brought a sour orange pie, a Basque cheesecake, and a basic chocolate cake that was amazing. I have had way too much sugar tonight, after avoiding it for Lent, plus tomorrow I have another interview for my own job, so it's time to wrap this up and go to bed. I'll type more tomorrow.
