Photos from Our Cruise on Saturday

My computer Boethius is starting to scare me a little. Last night I discovered yet more slideshows he had made, and they had appropriate names like "At the Beach" and "On the Trail." There was one of a bunch of pictures when the Rosary Ladies invaded a Men's Steak Night Out, and Boethius titled that one "Around the Table." At least he didn't know to call the tie-dye one "Wearing Tie-Dye," or I'd really be freaking out.

Tonight Travalon and I took a hike at Lodi Marsh. That was really scenic, with all sorts of hills around us, and then we went up on a ridge and the marsh was below us. We both took pictures, so I will post those at some point, but tonight I am posting the long-promised photos from our cruise on Saturday. If you like autumn foliage and/or sailboats, then you will really enjoy these photos.

This is the Governor's Mansion. I have heard that the current governor actually does live there, and he and his wife go out on water bikes all the time. The rumor is that the last governor didn't live in Madison because he hated it here so much.

This is the Tenney Park locks that you can go through to get from Mendota (the lake we were on) to Monona. I have no idea if the lighthouse works - I have never seen it lit up.

Notice the scaffolding on the Capitol dome. They are doing some sort of work on it.

Here is our little boat, the Megan Jaye. (Named after John Lennon's yacht.)

Some of the shots above were of Governor's Island, and after the cruise we went there for a hike. These are some photos from that.

There are amazing views of downtown from Governor's Island.

These are views of Maple Bluff from Governor's Island, with the sunset bringing out the fall colors.

And here is the sunset itself! Still from Governor's Island.

Then we went to Warner Beach, and Travalon took some more photos of the sunset afterglow.

By the way, Governor's Island is not a real island because there is an isthmus out to it. I think it may have started life as an island, or maybe it is naturally a peninsula with a skinny part leading to a round part, but that seems less likely. Anyway, you can drive out onto it, but you have to park on the isthmus part and hike on the round part that seems like the real island.
