Wood Ducks and Other Fowl

Going down to the dock every morning with the camera finally paid off, because Travalon did get a couple of pretty good shots of the male wood duck. Actually, I think there may be two pairs of wood ducks in our neighborhood, because we saw one pair swimming by the next dock, and then we saw a pair swimming by our dock a few moments later - no way could the first one have moved backwards that fast. It was like someone rewound a tape. Anyway, here is a shot of the cranes looking like they're doing the same dance move.

I like this shot of the teals because the water is so beautiful.

Here is another good picture of the teals.

In this photo, a pair of teals are dabbling for food.

We also saw two Canada geese following a male mallard duck in what looked like a conga line. You can't see the second goose in this photo, but you get the idea.

And here, at last are the wood duck shots.

Isn't the male wood duck incredibly beautiful?

And then they swam away, so Travalon took another picture of the teals.

And then the teals flew away. Too bad you can't see the big blue patch on their wings, but I do like this action shot.

And here is the second pair of wood ducks.

Soon we should be seeing little baby wood ducks, little baby teals, and maybe even little baby canvasbacks, because we keep seeing them around too. Last year all we saw were baby geese and cranes, but those are adorable too.
