Fireworks Cruise in Chicago

Sorry that I haven't blogged in a couple of days. I have been very busy. Sunday morning Travalon and I were able to walk to St. Mary's for Mass, which was fine except that the priest had such a strong accent that we had trouble understanding him, and there was a guy wandering around with a camera. Here are some pictures from the church.

This was a pretty house we passed on the way to the church.

And this was a lovely rose garden across the way from it.

We saw this interesting mural on the way back, after buying tickets for the CTA. They are having a special price this summer - only $5 for all-day passes!

We also saw this salon with not one but two Basque flags in the window. We meant to go there yesterday to get our hair cut, but we completely forgot.

Then we used mass transit in the wild to go to Chinatown.

We ate at a restaurant called Slurp Slurp Noodles that was obviously good, because it was so popular. Hand-pulled noodles - yum! Then we shopped a little. After that we got back on the CTA and took it to the part of town where we needed to catch the boat, and we went to a bar called First Draft where I had a delicious sour beer. Finally, we caught our boat! The friendly woman we sat with took our picture, and she did a much better job than my sorry selfie, which I posted on social media and now can't seem to delete.

Travalon took so many photos of the downtown architecture that it could be its own post. We went down the river, with the DJ blasting hip hop music, and then we went out into the lake and watched fireworks all up and down the shore. Unfortunately they canceled the Navy Pier fireworks after we had already booked the cruise, and they wouldn't give a refund, but it was so much fun that I don't care. It was the wildest party on the water I've ever attended! So much fun! Here are some photos.

Travalon took these photos with his cell phone! Can you believe how well they turned out?

Back to his good camera: as we went back up the river, we saw a lot of the buildings were lit up red, white, and blue. It was magical!

Then at the very end, they had a fireworks show just for us!

It wasn't that long, and not nearly as spectacular as the Navy Pier ones would have been (no grand finale), but it was very satisfying to have fireworks right overhead. This post is already long enough, so I will post about Monday another time. Probably not tomorrow - we are going to a Mallards game.
