Flapper at the Duck Pond

Tonight the Mallards were playing as the "Capital City Teetotalers" in honor of Prohibition one hundred years ago. You were supposed to dress like the 1920's, but sadly, most people did not. I sure did!

When we got to the Duck Pond, the usual places that sold beer were "closed," but there were duck tracks on the ground to lead us to "speakeasies" shrouded in black cloth where you had to say the secret code "wet beak," and then they would serve you alcohol - in a paper bag! I liked that touch. Then we found our seats, right behind home plate.

The "Teetotalers" were playing the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, who are a really good team, but they only got one run this game. Our team fared far better, with two solo home runs, and one guy slowly trying to steal second base to distract the Spiders while another guy stole home, and then in the seventh inning - a grand slam!!! And it was the 22nd birthday of one of our players, who didn't homer, but he did have some nice base hits, including a double that got two guys home. By the top of the ninth, we were up 11-1, but then they filled the bases. To no avail - the next guy hit a pop fly that our team easily caught, and that ended the game. And then - fireworks!! This was the best Mallards game ever!!!

Travalon had a fun day at work, because they took the kids to an amusement park called Little Amerikka. They have a small train there, and he made a video of it. Since I'm always posting train videos, I might as well post this one - it's so fun with the amusement park rides in the background!

Weird that it let me post Travalon's video, which is just over a minute long, when it wouldn't let me post my video of the train from the east, when that is just under a minute long. Blogspot is so random.
