Today was one of those days that felt like a vacation even though I was technically working. Our first thing in the morning meeting lasted only three minutes, then I went to a research study about using AI. The grad student doing the study told me to have AI help me plan my ideal vacation, and then she paid me $15 in cash, plus another $2 for bringing my own laptop. All of us in the FARTs had gotten an email that there were treats for us in the Dean's suite, so Seabird and I went over there and had peanut butter cookies, then we chatted a while. The flowers on Bascom Hill were so colorful.
I went back and did a little work before my lunch break. Best break ever! My new boss and I walked down to the Alumni Association center, where we met Seabird, and we took a free ride on a pontoon boat. This time a scientist from Limnology came along and told us all sorts of stuff about the lake, before we took a speedy trip to see David Buoy at the deepest part of the lake. This buoy has all sorts of instruments on it to measure wind speed, water acidity, and just about everything going on in the lake.
After the boat ride we went back into the Alumni Association center, where Seabird had another cookie, so she didn't want to join my boss and me for ice cream at the Union. I was all ready with cash in my pocket, but my boss said, "This one's on me." Then we went back to our building, and I chatted with a grad student who had just come back from Alaska before doing some more work before Travalon came to pick me up.
We went to Jilly Moose's place, where she put together a lasagna, and then we swam in the pool at her apartment complex while the lasagna baked. We brought some sparkling wine. After dinner I had Jilly Moose's Alexa play "Butterfly" and "Kitchen Girl" and explain what the Dorian Mode is, then I lay on the couch, so relaxed that I was just a puddle, while Travalon and Jilly Moose chatted. Then Tiffy called, because she had come to town tonight to hit the Farmers' Market tomorrow morning bright and early. I told her she was welcome to come to Jilly Moose's place, since we had plenty of wine and lasagna, but she had gone to a pool party at her condo's pool, so she had already had plenty of swimming and food. Sounds like her day was about as stressful as mine was. Nothing like a summer Friday!
