Sauk Point Segment of the Ice Age Trail

Travalon and I had the day off of work, so we had a relaxed morning and then drove to Portage to have Greek omelettes at the Portage Cafe and lattes at Two Rivers Coffee. We were planning to take an easy hike on the Portage segment of the Ice Age Trail, which is relatively flat, but he found a new segment called Sauk Point that starts at Parfrey's Glen, so we went there. It goes up a bluff, but there wasn't a spot with a great view because the trail is in deep woods. Here are some photos.

This rock appeared to be the highest point of the bluff.

One crazy thing that happened was that at the top of the bluff, right by the rock, Travalon found a walking stick. He walked a short way with it when it snapped in two. The longer part was the perfect length for him, and the shorter part was the perfect length for me, so Someone up there just decided I needed a walking stick of my own... and believe me, on the way back down I needed it!

We took the Merrimac Ferry back and saw this golden hillside behind the railroad bridge.

After all that hiking, we just wanted to go home and sit on our three-season porch, where I wrote to Mariah my diary. It had been two weeks, so it took me quite a while.

Rich sent me this photo of the town of Baveno, Italy, as seen from the train:

You are not imagining things - he just got back from Nowheresville, Nevada, and now he is in Italy. He is just very peripatetic lately.
