Muskrat Mansion and Garage Sale for a Cause

I didn't sleep well last night; both Travalon and I woke up around 5:30, and we both chatted awhile and had trouble getting back to sleep. Maybe that's why I was so lazy this morning that it was almost noon by the time I got dressed, and Travalon got frustrated and went out to the dock because it was so warm out. I soon joined him (after finally finishing with DuoLingo), and then we went for a walk at Cherokee Marsh. Here are a couple of photos.

This one shows where the rickety dock I hated going on used to be. They must have removed it recently. Now they just have to remove the rickety observation tower that also scares me...

As we were leaving, we saw a cloud that looked like an albatross.

I should have zoomed in more, but there was someone behind us on the narrow road, so we didn't have much time. Our next stop was a big garage sale where all the proceeds go to charity, and we got to vote on which of five local charities would get the money. I believe it's split equally between the top two vote-getters. Travalon got some books, and I got some earrings.

The earrings toward the bottom of the picture are the violin and mandolin ones that arrived in the mail yesterday. It was hard to get them to sit at a good angle to take a photo.

Since we were so far south, I suggested that we walk on the long boardwalk along Lake Waubesa. We saw a couple of abandoned balls, but there was no way to rescue them.

Here are a couple of views of the railroad track that runs alongside the boardwalk.

We also saw this enormous muskrat lodge that looks like a little volcano rising out of the lake.

Wendy Wolf was very happy this morning because the Wolves didn't lose. Because they didn't play.

Tiffy is in Greece, and their hotel room overlooks the Parthenon.

This evening I went to the Irish session at the Lakeside Coffee House. This session is MUCH faster than the one at the music club (which will be tomorrow night), and they play a lot of tunes I don't know, but I was surprised at how many I did know. Of course the red-headed flute player was there, since she is the one who said I should go to this session, and Famie my Irish teacher was there but once again didn't bring her concertina. Our Shamrock Club buddy said she would try to make it, but we never saw her, and the grad student from my department didn't come either. There were maybe a few less musicians this time, but still lots of us, and there were a TON of people who just came to listen. I went to get my free drink, and I was going to get a Montucky Cold Snack like last time, but Famie was drinking a New Glarus Belgian Red, which is a cherry sour, so I got that instead. The Cold Snack is a pleasant, light beer, but there is no comparison. I just find the name Montucky Cold Snack fun to say, and I understand Montucky (it's the part of Montana where they raise a lot of horses, so like Kentucky), but Cold Snack? It's a drink, not food. I had told Travalon I was going to have the Montucky Cold Snack, since they have them there (the can has a horse on it), but he asked me if I did when I got home, so I said, "No, I found out they have New Glarus Belgian Red," and he said, "That is a better beer." My relatives out in Colorado get it every time they come to town because it really is that good.
