Personality Test

 

I forgot to mention yesterday that right after work I went to my garden, and there was another pink flag, but I weeded for half an hour and then it looked much better. My seeds have sprouted, and my kale was so big that I was able to harvest a little, along with some onions and chive. Best of all, I am going to have ground cherries soon - this is very exciting news when I thought I had lost them. I did eat an almost-ripe strawberry because it seemed likely that it wouldn't be there the next time I came back. When will that be? Who knows? I had Adoration this evening, band practice tomorrow evening, and I am once more making an attempt to donate blood on Thursday evening. Maybe I am too busy for a garden plot...

Speaking of gardens, these beautiful lilies are blooming outside our building. I love the contrast of the orange and the bright green.

Today my boss said we all had to take a personality test, and we would be one of sixteen personality types. I said that sounded like the Myers-Briggs, and I'm always an ENFP, but she said no, each type has a name, like she's the Logician, and you could be an Architect or Explorer or whatever. So I took it, and of course it was the Myers-Briggs, and I was an ENFP, or I believe they called me a "Petitioner." Always trying to make the world better for everyone. The surprising thing was that all of us were N, or Intuitive, and in fact that is the only letter I have in common with Tiffy, so it must be a really important one. True story: years ago a bunch of us took the Myers-Briggs test one Easter Sunday, and we were really good at guessing what the others would be (the Irish guy was a PINT, appropriately enough), but none of us could guess what Rich was. And do you know he was nothing? He was exactly equal in all four traits. (For example, I am two-thirds Extrovert and one-third Introvert.) Nobody had ever seen anything like it before - further proof that Rich is, in fact, an alien life form. Can't remember if I have blogged about that before, but if so, it was long ago enough that I can do it again and nobody will remember.

Then I left work early for an eye appointment. I'm supposed to have a checkup every year, but it had been five years since my last one - I just never have eye issues since having LASIK surgery. Still, they tell me I'm high risk for a retinal detachment, and of course with my advancing age they want to check for glaucoma and cataracts. Interestingly, they said the vision in my left eye got slightly better for distance since my last checkup, but they can see that my close vision is getting a little worse. They gave me a prescription for reading glasses if I want them, but I don't even use cheaters. Of course, after they dilated my pupils, I couldn't read anything close. Driving home was no problem, but then I had Adoration this evening and wasn't sure I could write in my prayer journal. I was an optimist and brought it anyway, and by then I could see well enough to write in it. My pupils were still really big, but I looked more winsome than freaky at that point. Anyway, my eyes looked good, and they took my blood pressure, and that was good too, so I'm feeling really healthy tonight.

Myers-Briggs Charts

I took an online test (100% accurate, I’m sure) to determine which side of my brain I use more, and guess what? I use both sides equally! Of course, nobody is as well-balanced as Richard Bonomo, who took the Myers-Briggs personality test and came out exactly in the middle in all four categories. We all took the test one Easter day at his house, and we had pretty good luck predicting what everyone would be, except Rich. We were all clueless… and for good reason! He’s so well-balanced that he doesn’t have a personality profile for Myers-Briggs. The big thing these days is sending around charts that show which character you are in a movie (e.g., the Harry Potter series, Lord of the Rings) based on your Myers-Briggs type, but Rich doesn’t get to play this game. Which I’m sure is devastatingly disappointing to him. In case you were curious, I am an ENFP, which means I’m an extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceptive kind of person, or loud and messy. If I were an animal, maybe I’d be a macaw, screeching happily and scattering bits of fruit everywhere as I hated being ignored. Hey! Wouldn’t it make more sense to have a chart of animals as Myers-Briggs types than characters from movies? Someone should make that chart.

What Are Your Skillz?

I took a strength test recently that said some things that didn’t surprise me (I am good at music and weak at kinesthetic stuff) and some stuff I didn’t understand (I have strengths in Existentialism and Intrapersonal skills). Here is the list of skills:

When I told Toque McToque about this test, and how I didn’t even know what some of these strengths of mine are, she wondered where the Awesome skills were. This inspired me to come up with what seems like a more relevant list of skills so let’s call them Skillz.

How Would You Like That Burger?

I am the Queen of Analogies, or so it seems. Once when T was bemoaning our single status at our (relatively) advanced age, I told her, "We women are like CDs. Some are the most popular thing right now and everyone wants them, but then after a while nobody listens to them anymore and they either sit on the shelf, un-listened to, or get sold to a used CD shop for a couple of bucks. You and I, we're Baroque music CDs. We sit in a bin in a specialty store, but one day someone will come along, see us, and say, 'That's the CD I've been looking for!' Then he will take us home and listen to us every night and never get tired of us or sell us to the used CD place." T said, "I LOVE that analogy!" and it really cheered her up, although at this writing we are both still sitting in the bin, waiting for our listener to find us...

This weekend when I went to the spaghetti dinner with Rich and A-Fooze, I said, "Most people are like hamburgers. Everyone likes hamburgers pretty well. I'm more like Thai food, sort of an acquired taste. Some people will never like Thai food, but some people would always choose it over a hamburger." They liked that analogy, and A-Fooze said most of her friends were Thai food, and Rich agreed that our group of people were all Thai dishes of some sort. He said he imagined most scientific nerd types were Thai food, but A-Fooze disagreed, saying she was the only Thai food in her lab and everyone else was a hamburger. I listened to this exchange in amazement, seeing how my analogy had taken on a life of its own. I would have been hungry, but I had already eaten an entire plate of spaghetti and was working on an enormous slice of delicious chocolate fudge cake. (Eventually I had to concede defeat and give two-thirds of the cake to someone else.)

So who are the chocolate fudge cakes of the world? And does everyone love them or can they only take so much of them before having to pass them on to someone else? I certainly know people like that. However, if you are reading this blog, you are not one of them!
