Sorry that I haven't blogged for several days - we have just been so busy. Saturday the Wolves weren't playing, so Travalon watched the Crystal Palace game, and they tied with Manchester City. Jerry and Roy were so happy!
We drove toward Milwaukee and took a short walk at Lapham Peak before meeting Tiffy at the Park and Ride and then getting lunch at McCoco's. It was sort of blustery out, so Travalon suggested we could get some walking in at the Domes. Here are some photos. I will post more in the coming days.
Travalon went to Brady Street while Tiffy and I went to a Baroque Christmas concert in the usual Episcopal church. This woman ahead of us was wearing a hoodie that made her look like a bug!
That wouldn't be too weird at a street festival concert in Madison, but at an early music concert at a church? Seems odd. The concert was Rachel Barton Pine and her 13-year-old daughter playing violin, and a wonderful soprano, as well as two older guys on cello and harpsichord. After the concert we met Travalon at County Clare, the Irish restaurant not even a block from the church. Then after dinner we passed this lovely pink Christmas display.
Yesterday we went to the church on the far east side again, and the rock band led "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel." Never done a rocking version of that before, but I appreciate the choice of hymn. A lot of churches with more traditional music styles don't do that one. There was supposed to be a Care for Creation meeting right afterwards, but nobody was there, and we had to get going anyway, to get to the Shamrock Club Christmas Party. (We had to miss the East Side Club one for the concert the night before.) Here we are!
This cake was very pretty but so overly sweet that I could only eat one bite.
We bought raffle tickets, but by the time they called one of our numbers, all the good prizes (like the Irish coffee and the beautiful tea towel) had been chosen. We ended up with a dark green toque and some teeny bottles of booze, like you'd get on an airplane. It was a beautiful day out, so we went for a walk at Cherokee Marsh, hoping to see swans. There were thousands of geese there but just four swans, and Travalon's photos of them didn't really turn out since they were so far away. We did see a bunch of swans fly over when we were getting our Greek treats some weeks ago, and back home we saw some more fly overhead, yelping like puppies.
While Travalon napped, I did a Telehealth appointment. Saturday night my leg was hurting very badly, like it has been for a couple of months but only much worse, and when I googled it, it could possibly have been deep vein thrombosis or bone cancer. There used to be nurses you could call day or night, but now they just say, "Someone will call you back." It got so late that I just went to bed, and Sunday morning I saw they had finally called at 3:30 a.m. Anyway, I talked to some sort of health practitioner Sunday afternoon, and she assured me that I didn't have either bone cancer or DVT if my leg felt better from walking but worse from going down stairs. It did occur to me that I had hurt my knee that time I tripped on the railroad track in early October, so it makes sense that the Mammoth Hike Challenge seemed much harder this year. She asked why I hadn't called sooner, and I said, "I just thought at my age it was normal to ache so much." She said Ortho Rehab would call me today, since it sounded like a tendon issue.
The exciting thing Travalon and I did last night was go see the Holiday Train. I had to miss band practice, but it was great because for once it wasn't so cold. We made videos, so I will edit them and post the final product soon. We also saw some really cool Christmas decorations.
It was such a clear night that the stars really shone. Here you can see Orion.
Today I worked on campus, and Ortho Rehab called while I was in a meeting with my boss, so I called them back and they said they couldn't get me in until early February, but maybe Sports Medicine could help me. They transferred me to Sports Medicine, who said they could get me in tomorrow. I don't know how much damage I've done walking around on my wounded leg, but hopefully it can all be reversed. Here I thought I was getting old and out of shape and lazy, but all along it was an injury and not a moral failing. Sometimes my grasp of cause and effect can be kind of shaky.
In the evening Travalon and I swam in the warm pool and sat in the hot tub, and that helped a lot. I have no idea what they will do tomorrow, but hydrotherapy sounds wonderful. They will probably just make me do annoying exercises, like when I messed up my knee (same knee) twelve years ago. Hey, as long as I don't need a knee replacement, I'll do all the horrible exercises they prescribe.
