Hannibal to Home

This morning when we woke up in Hannibal, Missouri, we had this amazing view of the Mississippi River from our hotel window:

Sorry, no more photos tonight - we have to work tomorrow, and Boethius my computer is being particularly slow uploading photos. We took a walk around the cute town most known for being the hometown of Mark Twain, and we got coffee at a little local cafe.

Then we hit the road with the goal of not having to go into Illinois to get home. We stopped at a Missouri state park called Wakonda that had nothing to do with Black Panther. It mostly consisted of a beach that was closed for the season and a playground for kids. We couldn't find any hiking trails.

We stopped at the Amana Colonies and had a Dutch letter and a couple of other pastries, then we wanted a fast, light lunch, so we stopped at a Taco Bell in Cedar Rapids, but only the drive-thru was open despite the sign on the door that said: "Building must be unlocked during business hours." We drove through the downtown and found another Taco Bell on the other side, and that worked well except that for some reason they gave us an extra taco with a weird shell. I don't think Travalon ordered that, but I was powdering my nose when he placed the order, so who knows what happened there? I had only gotten a bean burrito, so I ate the extra taco too.

Just beyond that was Coe College, home of the Kohawks, so we took a walk on their small campus. Travalon pointed out that we tend to end our long trips by visiting college campuses to stretch our legs. They do have some of the most beautiful buildings.

We stopped just south of Dubuque in a suburb called Key West, so we were laughing about being back in Key West again. Of course, this Key West had snow on the ground. Then we drove back to Madison, and Travalon said the highway we were on, 151, goes up Park Street and onto John Nolen. I had never noticed this, but we followed the signs, and he's right. He also thought of the name for this blog post.

Okay, time for bed. We aren't used to going to bed early and getting up early, so we have to readjust. More photos to follow soon.
