Hiking at Devil's Lake for the Mammoth Challenge

Today Travalon and I had the day off of work, so we went hiking at Devil's Lake on the Ice Age Trail. The fall foliage was beautiful, and the weather was glorious. The water was a stunning blue. Here are some photos from along the trail.

This is a little peninsula that is the dog beach. It washed away some years ago but is back now.

This was a crazy vehicle we saw pass by.

We hiked around the lake, then we went into Baraboo and had lunch at a vegan restaurant called the Cheeze Factory that was recommended on the Mammoth Hike Challenge webpage, and it was really good. I had a lentil bowl full of vegetables and seitan strips that was flavored with Indian spices, cranberry chutney, and vegan sour cream, and for dessert we split a chocolate espresso cashew cake that had gold-covered cashews on top - I didn't think to take a photo until after we'd eaten it. It was so good! Then we went to the Village Bookstore and got some used books. We took the Merrimac ferry back.

There were wonderful breezes as we rode the ferry. When we got back to town, we went to Warner Park to watch the sunset. Here are my photos of it.

Check out how there's a definite line in the sky. The right is blue and the left is orange-tinted.

Here are Travalon's photos of the sunset.

There were a lot of airplanes making contrails lit up by the setting sun. Check out this photo!

We had thought it would be an ideal place to see the comet, but it is really getting faint now. I couldn't see it with my bare eyes, and you can barely see it toward the upper right of this photo.

The person in that neighborhood who goes all-out for Christmas really does it up for Halloween too.

I never heard back from the guy who needed my headshot. Maybe what I gave him will work? Going through photos of myself, I realize I'm outside in almost all of them, which means I am usually wearing a hat and sunglasses. It has given me a real sense of gratitude, because I have had some very wonderful adventures over the years, even if none of them provided me with an acceptable headshot.
