Sorry, no photos on this post - I'm getting started too late at night. Yesterday Travalon and I went to Lapham Peak to do some Ice Age Trail hiking, because even though we were technically finished with the Mammoth Hike Challenge with all our bonus miles, we thought we might as well try to finish doing the actual miles. Then we drove to Milwaukee to meet Tiffy, and we all had lunch at McCoco's, the Caribbean restaurant we often eat at. It was a beautiful day, so we took a walk by the lakeshore. Okay, I lied - here is a photo. I was telling Tiffy that one thing on my bucket list is to see a fata morgana, or a mirage where a boat that is actually over the horizon appears to be floating just above the horizon, and we saw a boat far out on the horizon. Travalon took a photo, and it looks a little like it's floating, so maybe we saw one right then. Or maybe it's just because it was so far away that it was hard for him to focus. You tell me.
I have seen more convincing ones online, where a ship really is appearing to float just above the horizon. We also saw lots of coots - photos tomorrow, hopefully. Then Travalon dropped Tiffy and me off at the usual Episcopal church where the early music concerts happen, and we listened to English Renaissance choral music while Travalon hung out on Brady Street. Then we all had dinner at County Clare, the Irish restaurant just kitty-corner from the church. In the car I played a couple of songs for Tiffy that we had discussed, "(I Want to Give You) Devotion" by Nomad and "Dragonball Durag" by Thundercat, but then I put on the Beatles album
Revolver, which I know is her favorite (it is my preferred Beatles album as well), and I could just feel the joy factor in the car ratchet up, because both Tiffy and Travalon love the Beatles. After we dropped her off, we listened to the rest of it, and then the best of Simon and Garfunkel. Their cover of "Scarborough Fair," with the glockenspiel and harpsichord and the other song in the background, is the best thing ever.
Today Travalon and I were very groggy, so we went to the late Mass north of us. We hiked on the Ice Age Trail that goes through the Lodi Marsh, and we got all our miles by actually hiking. When we got home, I submitted our form, so in a few weeks we should get our certificates and patches. Then we went to Rich's house for a party for Lady Harriet Whimsy, who was in town with her husband and adorable ten-month-old baby boy. That was a lot of fun, and that is why I got home so late and will be wrapping up this blog post. More photos soon!
