Ten Wonderful Years

Today I worked from home in the morning, and I walked with my neighbor. Another neighbor gave us chocolate chip cookies, fresh out of the oven, so I gave one to Travalon. Can you believe we have been married ten years today? Ten wonderful years!

Kathbert sent me a photo of her orchid cactus blooming. It's spectacular!

This is the sun catcher I got at Crazy Frank's Flea Market in Mineral Point. The photo doesn't do justice to the lovely purple hue in the glass pieces.

Travalon drove me to campus, and the traffic was horrendous due to graduation weekend. I went because they were having a party for the grad students, to celebrate their achievements this year: who got an MA, who got a PhD, who is going to travel abroad, who landed a tenure-track position, like that. I even got a little shout-out in the program. We played a fun trivia game where we had each had to provide a wacky fact about ourselves in the RSVP, and then we had to guess who said what. As always, my wacky fact is that I was born in Rooster, New York and grew up in Rooster, Minnesota. (After all, if Worchester is pronounced "Wooster" and Leicester is pronounced "Lester," how else would you pronounce Rochester?)

Back home, I went for another walk with my neighbor. I told her about the Very Slow Irish Session, and she started humming a bit of an Irish tune, so I hummed it too and said, "I think that's the Kesh Jig." She said, "It is the Kesh Jig." We admired this bright red azalea in our neighborhood.

Or maybe it is a rhododendron - I always forget how to tell the difference. We keep meaning to find the memory card from Travalon's camera that has the pictures of Ireland, so I can post photos of the glorious rhododendrons blooming around Blarney Castle when we went there for our honeymoon, which by the way - did I mention this? - was ten years ago.

My aunt and uncle from Colorado are in town, and we know they like vegetarian food, so Travalon suggested an Indian restaurant near their hotel. It was so good! We tried each other's dishes, and everything was so tasty. We talked so long that finally the owner came over and ruefully told us we would have to leave because the restaurant was closing. Stay tuned to see what adventures we have tomorrow...
