Taking the Shuttle to Campus

I have worked on campus for twenty years without paying for parking, but this year they finally had a deal that made sense to me: a parking lot here on the North Side with a shuttle that would take us to campus. It was a fraction of the cost of parking on campus, so I decided to do it. Yesterday was my first day, and I parked and got on the fancy coach bus. It was so nice! I was not as enthralled with the ride home, because after the shuttle picked me up, it went to the west side of campus, so it took a lot longer than the bus. Maybe I should take the shuttle in the morning and the bus in the evening... As my regular readers know, I love mass transit, and while this is not public mass transit, it still qualifies as mass transit, since it's a bunch of people in one vehicle.

When I finally got home, Travalon told me the internet was out. Usually I can just use my phone as a hot spot, but for whatever reason that wasn't working either. We gave up and went to Karaoke Night at the Crucible, the nightclub we once tried to go to when it was Bondage Night. The vibe in there was still kink, but it was fun to sing along with the person on stage, since they show the words to the audience too. I really should have worn stuff that glowed under blacklight.

Today I snuck out of work a bit early to see if I could catch an earlier shuttle, but that just meant I waited longer. At least it was lovely outside, but by the time it came, I kind of had to powder my nose, and it was going to be quite a while before the shuttle got to my car, and then more time before I got to a bathroom. But then I remembered: this was a coach bus! Sure enough, there was a tiny but immaculately clean bathroom in the back. Yay!

Here are some photos from our trip up north on Saturday. First, Iverson Park in Stevens Point has a lot of bridges, and a fun contraption on the playground.

The sign at this gas station seems a bit off. Yes, it was Saturday, but January 1??

Here are photos from Our Lady Queen of Peace in Manitowish. There were lots of wildflowers outside, and I loved the way the light from the stained glass windows looked on us. My phone calls this first one solidago.

This next one is hare's foot clover.

And a little puffball mushroom!

This little puffball looks like a snowman!

Here we are bathed in the light of the stained glass windows.

For some reason DuoLingo decreed that I could no longer use a photo for my avatar, which is a shame because I was using my favorite selfie where I'm wearing glasses that make me look like I have four eyes. It said I had to create a cartoon avatar, so I came up with something that sort of looks like me:

And then they started throwing it in my lessons! Here is how it looks when I get something wrong.

Here is how excited it gets when I get something right.

And this is when... it wants to kill someone?? I mean, what the what??

I don't think I ever make that particular expression, but perhaps I should ask Travalon. Maybe I make it all the time and don't realize it.
