Safari in Galena

This morning Travalon and I took a walk in our neighborhood, since he is trying to walk vigorously for thirty minutes every day, and we saw the two baby cranes with their parents, Bob and Hitachi.

Then we got on the road and drove to Mineral Point. We had lunch at the brewery, which has changed ownership but still has delicious food. The architecture in Mineral Point is so beautiful.

After that we drove to Galena, where we are staying in the Safari Suite at a bed and breakfast. Check out the decor!

Travalon is showing off a zebra-striped mug and a plate with a leopard on it that are part of the accoutrements of this suite.

The bed and breakfast is a perfect walking distance from the historic downtown, but we didn't see any crosswalks on the busy street we had to cross. Then Travalon noticed the pedestrian underpass, right alongside the river. Perfect! We went to a bunch of shops, including one called Chew Chew Cookies that had a train theme because of the name. They had this miniature setup of Galena for their model train.

Here are some photos of the life-sized Galena.

This is the church build by Father Mazzuchelli where we attended Mass tonight.

Think they'll let me in wearing my new marijuana hat, Buddhist prayer beads, and Capricorn necklace?

They have some pretty intimidating-looking Stations of the Cross in back!

They did let me in! Here's the interior of the church.

Afterwards we had pizza outside. It was a glorious evening.

Travalon found a new friend. This panda is named Ming, after his favorite coworker who just moved across the country. It smells like lavender.

I bought this crystal of amazonite because it's so pretty.

And this little house at an art gallery because I love it.

And I got a hoodie to commemorate our visit. This ought to glow under blacklight!

More photos of the beautiful architecture of Galena.

Our suite has a fireplace and a hot tub, so we are indulging in both. Tomorrow we can sleep in, because we already went to Mass, then we're off to explore Savannah and Sabula, and maybe the Mines of Spain by Dubuque. We'll see how much energy we have after walking six and a half miles today...
