Boardwalks in Cross Plains

Today was threatening rain, but Travalon and I headed off to hike on the Cross Plains segment of the Ice Age Trail. We were going to do a "pre-hike" on a section of connecting trail along a quarry, but we couldn't find anywhere to park. We drove up a road where we got a great view of the lake in the quarry, but you can't go on the lake (unless you are a goose - there were a ton of them!) because it's private property. Then we went to the Crossroads Coffeehouse because as part of the Mammoth Challenge we have to patronize at least three local businesses, and with the gloomy weather we needed some more caffeine. The segment of the Ice Age Trail we were on goes right through town, but it has cool boardwalks and bridges along Black Earth Creek. Travalon took photos.

The weather was fine until we had to leave for my Irish class, and then it started to rain. After my class we took a walk in the woods across from the nearby bluff, and then we watched the Packers game we had taped. It seemed to be going quickly, and they seemed pretty equally matched with the Bengals... and then both teams' kickers kept missing field goals, so the game went into overtime and dragged on. Between them, they missed five field goals! Finally our kicker, Mason Crosby, made a field goal and the Packers won! I thought I might be late for Night Prayer, and I was leading it!

Speaking of football, I forgot to mention the Badger game yesterday. They really beat up the Illini, 24-0. Usually I hate those blowouts when it's against a "cupcake" team, but this is another Big Ten team. Travalon called them "a conference cupcake - with frosting!" We taped that game too, and we saw part of it at the Linden Inn, and listened to some on the radio. We haven't watched the whole thing yet. Maybe tomorrow night...
