Back to Brodhead

Last night Travalon and I went to the Union Terrace for the first time since COVID-19 happened. Now you have to reserve a spot, which is kind of nice in that you don't have to hunt for a table, but isn't saying, "Excuse me, are you using that chair?" part of the Terrace experience? We only got to be there from 5:30-7:00, and we had to order our food on the GrubHub app, but it was a perfect evening and we were just happy to be there. Here are some pictures.

Today Travalon and I went back to Brodhead to explore the other side of Pearl Island. First we stopped for lunch in Oregon at a little local restaurant, and Travalon thought there was a park with a bridge over a creek nearby. We passed a little bridge, but there was no obvious path to get to it, so it seemed sort of pointless. Then we passed another bridge, but there was no shade whatsoever, and it was very hot. We ended up going for a walk in a shady park on the south end of town, and then we realized we may have parked in front of the house of a couple who used to go to our church, but we really haven't seen them in a long time. We weren't quite sure...

In Brodhead we went to the antiques store that had been closed last Sunday, thinking surely it would be open on a Saturday, but nope. There was a phone number to call, so I called it, and the guy said he was in Janesville today, and his shop was all online. I tried to figure out his website, but it looked like he was only selling an overpriced painting and a corroded candlestick, so that can't be right.

Then we went back to the bike path and walked to the covered bridge.

Here are some shots out the windows of the covered bridge. We could see the other bridge in the distance, but we never figured out how to get to it.

You can go on biplane rides in Brodhead, and as we walked on Pearl Island, we could see the biplane flying overhead.
Then we went back to Magnolia Bluff and walked the trails on the top of the bluff. Travalon took these photos from the top of the bluff.

We drove to Monroe to go to an antiques store there, but even though it was allegedly open until four, and we arrived before 3:30, the owner said he was closed and he wouldn't let us in. "But we came all the way from Madison!" I objected, and he said, "You should have gotten here sooner!" as if we were supposed to know that he was going to close early. I gave him a very bad review on Google and was satisfied to see that dropped his overall rating down a whole star.

Then we drove back to Madison and went to a resale shop on Willy Street, and even though she had supposedly closed two hours earlier, she let us in, and I bought some rosaries and some cactus magnets, while Travalon bought a globe. Then he and I went swimming at the beach in Governor Nelson State Park. So it was a mostly good day with a little bit of weirdness thrown in. And I ended up walking eight miles today.
